There’s nothing like a detox smoothie to get your gut back to normal. This smoothie cleanses and detoxifies, plus tastes great!
This Detox Smoothie recipe is a hands-down winner for fueling your brain and body with fiber-rich nutrients. It’s perfect for any day but really hits the spot on a Monday after a weekend of not-so-clean food. It puts your digestive tract right back in line by treating the gut to a healthy dose of good bacteria.
How Does this Detox Smoothie Recipe Help Your Gut?
Very simply put – the fiber. It’s easy to focus on protein, fat carbs, and sugar content when you’re trying to eat clean, but the real winner for gut health is fiber.
According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American adults are only eating an average of 15 grams of fiber on any given day, yet the daily recommendations are:
- 25 grams for women, or 21 grams if over 50 years old
- 38 grams for men, or 30 grams if over 50
The right amount of fiber feeds and makes the bacterial in the gut thrive and multiply in both number and kind. The more microbes we have in our intestines, the thicker the mucus wall and the better the barrier between our body and our busy bacteria population.
This is what goes down in your digestive tract – the mucus barrier lowers inflammation throughout the body at the same time the bacteria aid in digestion, creating a dual benefit.
Fun fact: About 100 trillion bacteria, both good and bad, live in your digestive system. Collectively, this is called your microbiome.
Starting your day with a fiber-rich detox smoothie gets your digestive system off to a good start since what we eat and drink becomes what lines our gut. Fiber-rich foods are filled with healthy prebiotics that nourish the gut and have a multitude of positive benefits. For example, they are associated with reducing certain types of cancer.
Detox Smoothie Ingredients
I typically make smoothies with ingredients I usually have on hand. However, I came across a new secret ingredient I had to try in a smoothie. Drumroll….
Navitas Organic Essential Superfood Blend
I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I opened the bag. This blend has the aroma of rich vanilla and decadent superfoods. I could almost taste it fueling my body. Some of the key ingredients in this superfoods blend include Pea protein, pumpkin seed protein, pomegranate, maca, camu camu, a greens blend (wheatgrass/kale/spinach/spirulina), acerola cherry extract, monk fruit extract, and a probiotic enzyme blend.
Nutritional content: 2 scoops are 100 calories, 1.5 grams fat, 9 grams carbohydrates, 4 grams fiber, 12 grams protein.
Spinach
This is powerhouse green is low in calories but high in vitamins including Vitamins A, C, K1, and Folic Acid. Spinach is also high in minerals including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Spinach also contains high amounts of insoluble fiber which is great for your digestive system.
Bananas
Bananas are chock full of vitamin B6, vitamin C, potassium, and manganese. After a tough morning workout, bananas are great for muscle repair. Potassium helps manage hydration in the body and supports oxygen levels. Manganese promotes healthy brain function and may increase bone density.
Pineapple
Pineapple contains a group of digestive enzymes called bromelain, a group of digestive enzymes that breaks down proteins and may aid in digestion.
Hemp Seeds
Hemp seeds have an excellent amount of healthy fats and essential fatty acids. They are also a great protein source, fiber source, and contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, and zinc.
Cacao Nibs
Cacao nibs are the most unprocessed natural form of chocolate that contains no sugar. They have a distinct nutty taste. Cacao in its raw form is packed with antioxidants and flavonoids which contain free radical scavenging capacity and anti-cancer properties. One once of cacao nibs also contains 9 grams of fiber and 64 mg of magnesium.

Recipe Notes
You can easily make substitutions in this recipe. I don't always have Navitas Organic Superfood mix so often will substitute it. Here are some great substitute options:
- Sub Superfood powder with 1 scoop vanilla or chocolate vegan protein powder + 1 tsp spirulina
- Sub spinach with kale or spinach/baby kale mix
- Sub pineapple with mango or frozen tropical mix
- Sub hemp seeds with flax
- Sub cacao nibs with vegan mini chocolate chips or shavings
- Sub frozen banana with avocado
You can easily get creative and try adding things too.
